Formosa Taiwan

Many people might get confused with the tropical Island of Taiwan with Thailand because of it's similar sounding name and pronunciation, And yes, Thailand is famous for ladyboys, mail ordered brides, thai iced tea, mangos and pineapples, but Taiwan is famous for Taipei 101, known as one of the four Asian Tigers, beautiful women, boba tea, and remarkable landscapes like Confucius Temple, Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall and National Palace Museum. We have many great night markets which includes the Shilin, Liouhe Tourist and Tainan Flower Night Market. It's one of the Islands that's been highly overlooked and neglected in the southeast coast of Asia.

Taiwan (aka Republic of China) got its mysterious and exotic nickname Formosa from the Portuguese sailors that sailed to this Island in 1544. Only generals or soldiers who served in the US. army knows a little about this democratic and unofficial country with a strong economy and the special relationships between Taiwan and communist China.

Taiwan may not be called a little slice of heaven to most foreigners, but it shares one thing every Asian country have in common, Taiwanese people are incredible friendly to foreigners, specifically cacausians.

ROC has been governed by the Dutch for 11 years in 1622. The Qing Dynasty conveniently took it over for another 50 years in 1683. The arrogant Japanese defeated the Chinese government in the Sino-Japanese War between 1894-5. The Japanese Empire ruled Taiwan for over 50 years. In 1945, after WWII, the US. Navy send ROC troops to Taiwan to help defeat the Japanese and end its tyranny over this Island. In 1952, Japanese Empire has fully surrendered to the sovereignty of the ROC government that's under US. Navy protection, which they've reluctantly signed the San Francisco Peace Treaty with the ROC and US. government. In 1958-present, the ROC government ruled the Island of Taiwan.

Many islanders and Taiwanese aboriginals claimed that Formosa has a richer Chinese history and an advanced civilization compared to China as a result of its Chinese cultural revolution between 1966-1976. These are ideologies and popular beliefs that should be reserved for further debate and discussion.
