June 25, 2016-I had the most spectacular and magical day with my hubby at the Pirate Invasion of Belmont Pier. I've met these four sexy mermaids at the Mermaid Festival off the coast of the pier, they were coming in for a morning dive.

This wonderful event reminded me of the three most favorite things I've loved to do: 1. Sometimes I've enjoyed being a carefree Disney mermaid like Ariel and swimming in the ocean while I played with my dolphins, and dreaming of the world above sea and the wondrous treasures it held, as I sing Jodi Benson's "Part of the World". I've always dreamed of being the mermaid princess for a day at the Disney world, Orlando, Florida. 2. I've always enjoyed a midnight snack and buckets of caramel popcorn with my friends watching "The Pirates of the Caribbean." 3.There is something incredibly attractive and mystic about the pirates who sailed the seven seas looking for hidden treasures. It is not their rough exterior in appearance or their aggressive attitudes in pirating ships, robbing stolen treasures, and kidnapping mermaids that have mostly attracted me, but the concept of freedom these pirates take for granted everyday. Freedom has never come easy for me, I had to constantly fight for my survival and freedom, and especially when I was growing up, which the incredible spontaneity and audacity of the Caribbean pirates have really intrigued me, and I feel like they are calling my name. I believe we all have a little "Peter Pan" in us, we just need to find out how to bring it out and channel it in the right direction.

For those of you who are interested in art and music, there's going to be an amazing art festival coming up between Friday, June 24 through Sunday, August 28, 2016. It's the Sawdust Art Festival’s 50th Annual Summer Show at Laguna Beach, California. Tickets are $9 per adult. Call (949) 494-3030 for RSVP and reservations. 935 Laguna Canyon Rd, Laguna Beach, CA. https://sawdustartfestival.org/

The Origin of the Pirates: In English-speaking popular culture, the modern pirate stereotype owes its attributes mostly to the imagined tradition of the 18th century Caribbean pirate sailing off the Spanish Main and to such celebrated 20th century depictions as Captain Hook and his crew in the theatrical and film versions of Peter Pan. Robert Newton's portrayal of Long John Silver in the 1950 film of Treasure Island, and various adaptations of the Eastern pirate, Sinbad the Sailor. In these and countless other books, movies, and legends, pirates are portrayed as "swashbucklers" and "plunderers." They are shown on ships, often wearing eye patches or peg legs, having a parrot perched on their shoulder, and saying phrases like "Arr, matey" and "Avast, me hearty." Pirates have retained their image through pirate-themed tourist attractions, traditional film and toy portrayals of pirates, and the continued performance and reading of books and plays featuring pirates.
